Ski & Ride Montana's Oldest Ski Area
Opened in 1936, the mountain has gone through many changes over the years. From car engines with ropes, to Swiss made chairs, this place is a living relic. Today, Showdown Montana still gets amazing snow with no snow making at all, just pure dry champagne powder! The mountain is accessed by 4 different lifts - 2 double chairs, one that accesses the more difficult terrain and the other accesses the beginner area, the triple chair allows access to the whole mountain, there is also a beginners conveyor belt that access only one beginner run and is a great place to learn. The base of the mountain is 6,800 ft and the summit is at 8,200 ft giving 1,400 vertical feet on 600 acres of terrain. Showdown is located on Porphyry Peak, in the Lewis and Clark National Forest. There is a no unauthorized motor vehicle travel restriction, except in the parking lot. Showdown is open from the beginning of December to the beginning of April, Wednesday through Sunday 9:30 - 4:00, and is open for most national holidays during the winter.
